BOOK THREE ---------- THE ONE

FLASH THREE: CHANGELESSNESS

    Whether the outward aspect of Being does or does not clothe Himself with modes and facets is a matter of circumstance.

    The manifestation of the modes and facets causes no change in the "substance" of such Being or in His essential attributes.

    The manifestation causes only a change in His connexions and relations.  This, in fact, necessitates no change in His essence.

.....                    .....                    .....                    .....                    .....                    .....                    .....

    For instance, "A" may get up from the right of "Z" and go and sit on his left.  If he does so, the relation of "Z" to "A" in respect of position will be changed.

    His essence and his inherent qualities will remain unchanged.

.....                    .....                    .....                    .....                    .....                    .....                    .....

    Thus, the ONE Real Being underlying all existence does not become more perfect by clothing Himself with noble outward forms.  Nor does He degrade Himself by manifestation in inferior theatres.

.....                    .....                    .....                    .....                    .....                    .....                    .....

    The light of the sun illuminates at once clean and the unclean; Yet it undergoes no modification in the purity of its light.

    It does not acquire the scent of the musk; It does not acquire the colour of the rose;

    It does not acquire the reproach of the thorn;   It does not acquire the disgrace of the rugged rock.

.....                    .....                    .....                    .....                    .....                    .....                    .....

When the sun sheds his light for all to share,

It shines on foul things equally with fair;

Fair things do not augment its radiance,

Nor can foul things its purity impair.
